While this blog is my baby, for four years I had my heart set on Wattpad and all the lovely fanfictions I wrote on there. Obviously they were a piece of art for younger me but all these years I’ve known for a fact that if I go back to read these, I’m going to cringe so bad.
A lot of people wanted me to do this post so I thought what better day to do this than on Percy’s birthday!
*cue all the confetti, blue balloons and blue cake*
So before we get into it, this post might be a bit messy since my emotions go all over the place when it comes to Percy Jackson. You might be in for a long ride, so sit tight.
And in case you haven’t read the Percy Jackson series, I pity your mortal soul. But seriously, go and read this dam series. But also stay to read this post cause I’ll be giving spoiler warnings wherever needed 🙂
So, let’s get on with it!
I React To the Cringey Percy Jackson Fanfiction 13 Year Old Me Wrote
So when I first got on Wattpad I was 13 and absolutely new to fandoms. In hindsight, I didn’t read a lot of original works but more of fanfictions. Back then, the last book in the Heroes of Olympus series had just come out so the fandom was pretty active and it was huge.
Anyway, I remember getting a good following on my Percy Jackson fanfics so let’s see how my account and notifications are doing right now.
I don’t know how good the picture quality is but those are way less followers than I remember. Maybe a lot of people left or 800 followers just meant a lot to little me, hehe. I found out my bio still said I’m 17 aka it’s been 2 years since I’ve been on the site and my notifications were absolutely flooded with comments and likes on my fanfics. That’s nice, at least people are still enjoying my work 🙂
So this was the first Percy Jackson fanfic I wrote and apparently the date stamp of completion is August 2015. Wow, 5 years, full circle. Right off the bat, that cover is so blurry omg, the picture quality those years.
This book was as cringey as I expected, in fact even more. I felt like burying my head in a hole like an ostrich. I was sort of going along with every possible cliche in the fandom and oh my gods, the characters were out of character so many times… Like take this for example.
Also, let it be known that I was lazy and didn’t look up Rick’s son’s name and 90% of the comments in every post would be people telling me his name is Haley -_-
Lmao, I’m still cackling. Honestly, the wattpad comments section is always gold, unless you’re getting spoilers. But the fact that people go ahead and keep chatting to build a joke, it’s all so wholesome, that’s what I miss the most about the Wattpad community.
I also loved writing sassy Percy aka Persassy. And I’m super proud of that Kane Chronicles joke, lol.
Okay, moving on to the next book!
I had a separate book where I would write all sort of headcannons and oneshots in so I’m just going to go through the Percy Jackson ones for the sake of this post.
Till date I can’t stop cracking up and wishing this headcannon would come to life, hehe.
Oh my god I just got reminded that I wrote a oneshot based off The Lightning Thief where Annabeth, Percy and Nico play ball with Cerebrus and ahhh it’s so adorable! Not very well-developed writing but the whole story still made me smile.
I even wrote a Gruniper aka Grover and Juniper oneshot which is so cringey, I just turned as red as a tomato while reading it…. nobody needs to read that ever.
This might be a good time to mention that I was one of those people who wrote fanfics where the PJO characters would read the actual books, hehe. But it was so tedious and at one point Wattpad went ahead and deleted those stories. I remember weeping because I’d worked so hard on those!
Anyway, I think we’re now moving on to the last Percy Jackson fanfic I wrote.
I really like how I started this story with some actual background and introduction which makes sense and isn’t too cliche or cringey. Also I don’t see any spelling errors so I’m proud of 2017 me!
Again, the comments here are GOLD. I especially love when people are commenting years later and the life contexts have completely changed.
Minor spoiler for Nico’s character that is revealed in The House of Hades
I’ve also found some amazing fanart that I’d made these characters react to and I absolutely couldn’t resist putting up this one here 😉
Also, I have so much to say about this part:
Seasoned shippers of the PJO fandom will remember the number of times Jason Grace has been shipped with a stapler (stason) and a brick (brason) for unexplainable reasons. I know, I know, other fandoms think we’re crazy.
What happened was that I along with a few friends made a new ship called Brajapler which is, you guessed it, Brick X Jason X Stapler.
THE BEST PART IS THAT I WROTE A FANFIC FOR THAT SHIP. I can’t find it anywhere but I swear to gods I wrote a oneshot for it and I laughed the entire time XD Oh the fun we had!
But guess what, I did find a Piper X Cornucopia oneshot I wrote which took place after Piper found out Jason was cheating on her with Brick and Stapler. Good lord, it’s hilarious. I miss this fandom so much ahhhhh.
Oh my god wait! I just realised that I did write one more Percy Jackson fanfic which is the most story-like fanfic out of all these and kinda had a self-insert mc?
This was apparently written in 2016 and I was surprised that when I read through it, I found it pretty decent. It’s obviously not perfect, there were some editing mistakes, overall the pacing was slow but it wasn’t bad altogether. I could see some of my current writing reflected in it and I actually enjoyed reading it since I had obviously forgotten some parts of it.
Phew! That was quite a ride.
All in all, making a Wattpad account was the best decision I ever made, as was reading the Percy Jackson series and joining the fandom. For four years, these two things were the highlight of my life and I really don’t know where I would be without them.
Sure I cringed a lot but phew, I’ve gotten better at writing so that’s definitely a plus! Hope you all got what you wanted from this post, I certainly had a fun time taking a trip down this memory lane 🙂
Have you ever read your old writing and felt like trashing it?
Were you ever on Wattpad? What do you think of what that platform is now versus what it was before?
And lastly, what is your favourite part of being in a fandom?
