Books I Read
THE COMFORT BOOK
This book was so unlike anything I’ve ever read. It’s exactly what the name suggests, like a soft and warm hug 4/5 stars
GOD LOVES HAIR
I was so disappointed in this book, mostly because I had different expectations. This was much more autobiographical and unfortunately I didn’t connect with the stories. 3/5 stars
THE MARK OF ATHENA
Another amazing re-read in the HOO series! This might be one of my favorite books of the series because we see all the characters interact with each other and work together as a team as well as Annabeth just being badass as always. 5/5 stars
THE STRANGE DEATH OF ANINDYASUNDAR
This was a short yet extremely atmospheric and gripping read. The mystery kept me at the edge of my seat and since I was listening to the audiobook, I must say that the narrator simply brought everything to life. 5/5 stars
THE HIDDEN ORACLE
I’m giving this series a second chance and maybe it’s because I adjusted my expectations but I liked this book much more that I did reading it the first time. 4/5 stars
THE DARK PROPHECY
After the first book, this was quite underwhelming. I feel like this book should have been wayyy shorter. It just dragged so much in the middle that I lost interest. Of course there was some redeeming stuff but overall I just feel meh about this book. 3.5/5 stars
PERFECT ON PAPER
I LOVE THIS BOOK SO FREAKING MUCH!!! THE SLOWBURN, THE ROMANCE ADVICE, THE FRIENDSHIPS JUST SASJSDHOALDJOAIHDQUA. 5/5 stars
Books I Hauled
THE COMFORT BOOK
Anything that Matt Haig writes I have to buy, as simple as that.
TODAY TONIGHT TOMORROW
Will you believe me if I say I ordered this book in November 2020? Because I did and this seller was absolutely horrible. Not only was there such a huge delay, they had cancellation prices as well and ugh I’m just thankful this book is here now.
RISING LIKE A STORM
I was so excited to see this gorgeous beauty and complete my The Wrath of Ambar duology!
Everything I Binge-Watched
KAPOOR AND SONS
I’ve been meaning to watch this movie since so long and I think it was a good watch. The acting was good, it played on family dynamics and I had a good time overall.
KAL HO NA HO
This is another classic Bollywood movie that I haven’t seen and while I can’t say whether it completely passes the tests of time, I did enjoy it. It was emotional, sappy and kinda cute. But it also had my most hated stereotype of girl takes off glasses to become pretty ugh.
JAB WE MET
I had so much fun re-watching this! It used to be one of my favourite childhood movies and oh my god the soundtrack is the best. I loved the actors and the storyline and just every freaking thing about this movie ❤
DERRY GIRLS S2
This season was even better than the first! Each episode was hilarious and the characters are so quirky, you can’t help but root for them. Also the last episode was kinda emotional and cinematic and ugh this show has my heart.
MASTERCHEF AUSTRAILIA S13
I’ve been watching this since last month but of course this has like 60 episodes so it took me some time. I love watching cooking shows, especially Masterchef where there are so many challenges. Also I got really attached to a lot of the contestants this time so that made the whole experience even more memorable 🙂
GLOW UP S3
I love Glow Up so much!! It’s the only show I know revolving around makeup and it’s honestly just super fun to see these creative people creating all sorts of amazing and beautiful looks.
I have a think for cooking and baking shows and Bake Squad turned out to be really fun. It’s a different concept wherein each of the four bakers try and create something special and I love how they have their own takes from the same brief. And man they’re seriously talented because those deserts were all to die for!
GREY’S ANATOMY S3 – 9
So this is where 90% of my August went. I seriously binged so freaking much of Grey’s Anatomy I even dreamt of it. It’s a good show and I love the medical side of it and looking at interesting cases. My mom and I do get really annoyed that literally the entire hospital sleeps around with each other. I can’t even count the number of times I’ve yelled at these characters and tried giving them relationship advice, lol.
August was a terrible month for me. If you follow me on social media you may have noticed that I withdrew quite a bit from there. To be honest, most of my days were spent with nothing much to do. Every day I woke up with zero motivation and tried to stick to a basic schedule of exercising, reading and writing. It just felt like a chore to go through every day and I was just extremely burnt out.
At that point I had pretty much withdrawn from everything but then I needed to get in my course registrations. In my university we choose our courses and hence our timetable and a lot of times we have to fight for it, especially in departments like psychology and creative writing where the faculty is limited and the number of students who need to take the courses are too many. Simply put, I was really stressed, this was like the cherry on top and I had kind of reached my coping limit.
I was honestly waiting to get my second dose of the vaccine (which I did!!!) and hopefully get called back on campus. So I just decided to give up being productive and maintaining a schedule of any sort. For a couple of days I was just sleeping, eating and binge-watching for the whole day while trying not to feel guilty about it. I would say that helped a little.
And then I got invited back on campus which really was the highlight of my month. I’m just tired of being coped in my house and having zero social life because I don’t really have any friends in my hometown. So yeah, that really lifted my spirits but it’s still been a slight struggle to get back to any sort of schedule. As I write this I’ve already gone through the first week of my online classes and it’s not easy to jump back into studying vigorously straight away. But at least these days I’m much more motivated to get up in the morning and actually do stuff. To pack for college, do the readings for my course and what not.
I don’t even know whether I’m writing this for an update or for my own sake but yeah, that’s how my August went. I’m ecstatic and really looking forward to September because I get to be back on campus and see my friends and just try and go back to some semblance of normality. Keeping my fingers crossed that it all works out!
What was your month like?
Have you read any of these books or seen these shows? If yes, what are your thoughts on them?
What are you looking forward to in September?
