Recommending 6 Graphic Novels I Adore
Fence by C.S Pacat
I’m not someone who knows a lot about sports so I usually don’t read about sports but the Fence series somehow captured my interest. The fencing scenes are so gripping, the art makes it so easy to follow them! But more than that I’m here for the characters, especially the enemies to friends to lovers kinda relationship that we see developing between Seiji and Nicholas. Ugh take my heart and my money!
Laura Dean Keeps Breaking Up with Me by Mariko Tamaki
This might just be my all time favourite graphic novel. Most graphic narratives are about love or magic or life humor but Laura Dean Keeps Breaking Up with Me explores toxic relationships in such a different way. If you’ve ever been in any kind of toxic relationship, whether romantic or platonic I’m sure you will relate. Plus there’s queer rep! Oh and the pink hued illustration style? I’m in awe at how well it was executed. It’s just incredible.

Heartstopper by Alice Oseman
I mean is there anyone who hasn’t read the Heartstopper series yet? Maybe you just haven’t gotten around to it yet so let me give you some incentive. This is the most adorable graphic novel I’ve ever read. Seriously, Charlie and Nick are absolute cinnamon rolls. This is the perfect light and fluffy pick me up read. Plus,, we’re getting a Heartstopper tv series soon! So what better time than now to pick up this series 🙂
Nimona by Noelle Stevenson
Shapeshifters? Check. Action? Check. Villains you can fall in love with? DOUBLE CHECK.
My god, Nimona is a book which is jam-packed with action, humor and absolute adorableness. Right from the start I was sucked into the story. Nimona’s character is quite enchanting! She’s a quirky and adorable character who loves killing people and is a total badass villain. Now that was a line I never thought I would type. Also the plot was so good??? There was mystery, science stuff, plot twists and actual character development as well as some wonderful themes. In short, this book has it all, would 100% recommend.
Check, Please! by Ngozi Ukazu
Check, Please! is another sports story I didn’t expect to fall in love with. But it’s just SO cute? Bitty is an adorable cinnamon roll vlogger and hockey player and it’s so fun to see him navigate being a freshman in highschool and being on the hockey team. I love the friendships and bonds he made and how he grows more and more confident over the series.
That Can Be Arranged: A Muslim Love Story by Huda Fahmy
That Can Be Arranged is such a hilarious and extremely bingeable read centered around the lives of Muslim women. I’m not an own-voice reviewer for this but I loved every single panel and the snark and humor as well as the simplistic illustrations that carried the narrative forward.
Have you read any of these graphic novels? If yes, what are your thoughts on them?
What kind of graphic novels are your favourite? I personally go for light-hearted and funny 🙂
