5 Songs I Would Love to See as Books

What kind of music do you love? I personally adore listening to songs that have a story or just watching the scenes unfold in a music video. Every song has some sort of a message to convey and I often add soundtracks to what I’m reading in my head. Oh and don’t even get me started on making playlists for books!

The other day I was thinking, what if there could be books written inspired from some songs? Wouldn’t that be awesome?!

Ahem, as usual I’ve decided to take things into my own hands as I went through songs in my playlists and turned some of them into songs. Of course I took some creative liberties and did my best not to take up songs that already have structure, story-based music videos. And it turned out to be so much fun!

Come take a look 🙂

5 Songs I Would Love to See as Books

Copycat by Billie Ellish

“Copycat tryna cop my manner,

Watch your back when you can’t watch mine.”

“You just crossed the line,

You’ve run out of time”

Maria is an outsider at her new school. Not only did she just move into this odd small town she also found herself in the house of her nightmares. She would have given anything to go back to the city, to her previous school where she was liked and fawned over by others. In an attempt to get back a shred of her old life back, Maria sets out to copy Nayra, the most popular and mysterious girl in her class. Except this doesn’t go unnoticed by the other girl and how was Maria supposed to know she’s copying a teenage witch? Nayra curses her copycat to mimic everything she does and Maria starts to find out just how dark and strange the life of a witch can be.

I am now obsessed with this idea and hello can someone please write it, I beg you!!! Teenage witches and curses are the best thing ever.

Call Me Maybe by Carly Rae Jepsen

“Hey, I just met you and this is crazy,

But here’s my number, so call me, maybe”

Sana doesn’t like blindly dating people. It’s utter bullshit. But when her idiotic friends dare her to give her number to the next stranger her age she meets she agrees. It’s only to shut them up and of all places she finds him throwing a coin in a wishing well. Whatever, Sana all but shoves a piece of paper with her number upon him and walks away. She doesn’t expect him to text her. She doesn’t expect all the Star Wars references and adorable baking pictures and these feelings in her chest. And now this boy is flying over to the states for a holiday and wants to meet her. What started as an impulsive dare has now turned into the biggest mess of her life.

I took the wishing well part a bit literally but now I’m very interested in how this will turn out…

Mad at Disney by Salem Ilese

“So call me a pessimist,

But I don’t believe in it,

Finding a true love’s kiss is bullshit”

If her coworkers were to describe her, they would say that Brenda is a grumpy hot-headed woman who slaves her days behind the computer, coding till her eyes threaten to become drier that the Sahara desert. Nobody know of her embarassing childhood, a girl lost in her world of dreams and Disney princesses. She knows better now. There’s no such thing as ture love in the real world, let alone the kind of romance displayed in media. Brenda is happy on her own but her rent starts piling up and she finally relents and gets a roommate.

Jia is a mistake. She’s everything Brenda hates: chirpy sunshine morning person and a romantic at heart. Even worse, her actual job is being Princess Jasmine at Disneyworld. What rotten luck. It’s hate at first sight and Brenda can’t wait for the three months to pass so she can legally get a new roommate. Except maybe Jia starts growing on her and even though Brenda would never admit it out loud, there are definitely some sparks flying between them

This song was everywhere on TikTok a while ago and I was obsessed. But I only came up with this story right now and like why doesn’t this already exist?? Sapphic enemies to lovers romance, oof. Checks all my boxes!

Where We Come Alive by Ruelle

“I can see the future,

Painted in my eyes.

Open up the door and

Fade into the light.”

Kiara hasn’t told anyone about her dreams. The last time she did it ended up in months of therapy and people in white coats prodding her head. But Kiara knows there’s nothing wrong with her, and so does her brother Brian. Every day her dreams get more and more vivid, until Kiara finally gives in. Along with her brother she enters a totally different world where things make no sense. They are the only two sane people around and exploring this world only makes it more and more terrifying. The realization that one day this will be their future throws them off their feet and now the two of them need to try and figure out what went wrong and why. Is there any way to make sense of things and protect the future of their world?

Okay this one is kinda abstract and I have no idea what’s happening here since I barely spent fifteen minutes trying to plot it out, lol. Still, seems like an interesting concept one can build upon.

Play With Fire by Sam Tinnesz

“I love to watch the castles burn,

These golden ashes turn to dirt.

I’ve always liked to play with fire”

Aaron has a special gift. He can summon fire at will, ever since he was a child. It cost him his family, his home and his past but now he’s a free agent. He doesn’t care what needs to be done as long as he gets paid. As time passes, Aaron grows increasingly cocky and arrogant about his abilities and powers but when he pisses off the princess of the sea-world she takes what matters the most to him. Without fire, Aaron doesn’t know who he really is. Desperate, he embarks on a journey underwater to repent and get back his ability however possible.

Again, this is kind of under-developed but it’s also just me letting there be an open interpretation of what turn this story could take 🙂

  1. Omg Charvi I loved this post so much!! Especially the one for Call Me Maybe, and Play With Fire. Story songs are so cool, I often make playlists for books I read but I’ve never really thought about turning a song into a book before, but it could definitely work super well!
