I mean yes, every day since this goddamn pandemic I have been glued to my screens like many others but this month I might as well get new eyes for myself. I literally have a different set of glasses for screen time and god knows most days I end up wearing them 24/7.
All my classes are online but then so are the amazing movies and tv-shows that I ended up watching in January. Part of the reason you’re about to scroll through a long list is because I knew my semester would start mid-month and I crammed in as many things as I could watch. I would say it was overall a good month for binge-watching so let’s check out all my recommendations π

January Binge-Watching Wrap-up: It’s Been A Month of Being Glued to the Screen
What I Binge-Watched
The Glitch

The Glitch is a YouTube web-series by girliyapa wherein a college girl’s body gets swapped with her grandmother’s due to a glitch in the universe. It’s such a unique and exciting concept which really lived up to the expectations. It takes a fun yet introspective dive into two very different lives. Both the actresses did a fantastic job and since this series only has three short episodes that you can watch for free you shouldn’t even be here anymore β go watch it now!
The Lovebirds

This movie gave me exactly what I came for β a fun action romantic-comedy where a couple breaks up and finds themselves running away from a murder as they try to solve it. There were crazy cults and injuries and flashbacks and overall this movie was very chaotic but that’s what I expected so if you’re looking for anything like that, give it a watch.
Australian Survivor S3
Hello, if you’re new to my binge-watching wrap-ups let me tell you that every once in a while I’ll get the urge to watch Survivor and let it run in the background as I live my life. It was the first time I saw the Australian one and no offense to the host but I missed Jeff Probst. He might be like 25% of the reason I watch the show. But yes other than that, loved the challenges, got over some of the stronger accents over time and yeah, enjoyed it!
Survivor S24
The problem is that I watched the latest season of Survivor which basically brought in previous winners. I saw it before watching most of the previous seasons so now I already know who wins the show in most cases and many of them are people I dislike. But I finally found this season and it was pretty interesting to see the the dynamics between men and women and ahhh I love watching these people do challenges π
Euphoria

Oh my god I finally watched Euphoria. Like of course it was on my radar because of Zendaya but then everyone keeps telling me my makeup looks remind them of Euphoria and I finally got to see what the fuss was about. I absolutely stan the looks of course, and overall I really liked it from the characters to the storyline. My favourite character would probably be Kat, she’s a queen!
However, I got kinda bored with the holiday special episode. I literally fell asleep in the middle of it. I liked the content they brought up but I honestly missed the action and movement in the episode which is why it just felt more like a podcast and I got bored..
Mindhunter S1 & 2

MAKE WAY FOR MY NEW FAVOURITE SHOW!!! Do you like true crime? Are you a psychology nerd? If you said yes to even one of those questions, this is the show for you. I watched this over the month with my friends and I swear every episode left us in awe and shock at the revelations. We get inside some famous criminal minds like Ed Kemper and Manson and it’s just so well-written and shot! I’m extremely sad that the director decided to not go beyond a second season because every minute I spent watching this show was absolutely worth it.
The Misery Index S2

My love for he Impractical Jokers and Jameela Jamil combines once again! Season 2 was as hilarious as before and I honestly live for every single power-suit Jameela wears. In case you don’t know what the show is about, contestants compete against each other with the help of the jokers to rate other people’s miseries and win money for their accuracy. I won’t suggest watching this while you’re eating though…. some miseries can be quite nasty.
Rebecca

I just gave up trying to read this book before I watched the movie, simply because I’m not a huge horror-mystery fan. Also, I was aware of the climax because someone re-enacted it at a literature festival so I just went ahead and watched the movie. It was definitely intriguing in the sense I didn’t want to stop watching but in the end I found it okay. Nothing wrong with it really, except Rebecca undergoes some sudden attitude transformation towards the end which came out of nowhere. I guess it was just a one-time watch for me.
Tribhanga

Again, this might be one of my favourites of the month. Tribhanga is a beautifully executed movie about generation trauma that women carry and how it affects their lives and relationships. Apparently this movie took about seven years to make and I absolutely loved it. Kajol is an amazing actress and I absolutely loved the other actresses as well, considering one of them was the director herself. The movie carries out a beautiful concept in a wonderful manner and I would 10/10 recommend it to everyone!
Happy Death Day 2U

This one is a sequel to Happy Death Day, a horror-mystery movie where a girl finds herself trapped in a loop on the day of her birthday. The sequel follows up with the story as the time loop gets passed on to someone else and the idea of multiple dimensions gets introduced. I found this movie equally engaging as the previous one and while it wasn’t huge on the mystery aspect I still enjoyed it because gah, I love time loops and multiple dimensions and all that stuff. My only complain was with the ending scenes which seems almost childish in comparison with the rest of the movie. Like really? Do you wanna take on such a nonsensical cliche ending when you could have ended the movie on an earlier note?
Impractical Jokers S8

I caught up with the eight season just in time! Of course it was as hilarious as ever π
If you’ve never seen the show, it’s a comedy reality program about four best friends who embarrass each other and put themselves through hilarious and uncomfortable situations as a contest. I’m a huge fan and I’ll honestly watch clips from the show whenever I need cheering up. Can’t wait for the next season!
What I’m Currently Watching
Kim’s Convenience S5

Um hello, season 5 snuck upon us out of nowhere??? I think I haven’t watched beyond the first episode because I’m buried under college work but oof, it feels so good to get back this adorably dysfunctional family π
Sense 8

I’m re-watching Sense 8 with some friends because hello how can I keep them away from this masterpiece?? It’s been some time since I first watched the show so I’ve forgotten bits and pieces so it’s nice to go through it all again. We’re almost done with season one as I write this post!
What I Re-watched
Welcome

Ahhh Welcome is such an iconic cult classic that I saw and adored as a kid! I rewatched it with some friends β Shealea, Kate, Cam, Nandini, Shruti, Gargee and Anandi and wow did we have a good time. This movie is so much crazier than I remember but the jokes still hit you right and oof this was definitely a nostalgia watch for me.
Om Shanti Om

I also watched this iconic movie with the same friends. Yet again, this was crazier than I expected, simply because I had blocked or forgotten the entire first half of the movie. Old Bollywood movies were really stretched out you all. But I still enjoyed it because memories. Also, the soundtrack was A+ and I’m gonna be listening to this movie’s playlist on repeat for a long time.
What I Couldn’t Keep Watching
Chilling Adventures of Sabrina Part 4
Oh god, this was absolutely terrible. I actually enjoyed the first 2 seasons of Sabrina but really disliked the last season, especially the ending. But since I adore the actors I thought I could try watching the last season as background noise but nope, couldn’t even do that. This shit has zero plot, the plot makes no sense. Actually, I’ll tell you what the plot is, Sabrina gets to do whatever the hell she wants and other people have to put up with her and the consequences of her idiocy. Yup, I’m very frustrated. I was just bored and miffed while watching this. Couldn’t even get past the second episode.

Phew, that was a long post! What all did you watch in January and ended up enjoying?
Have you seen anything from the shows and movies I mentioned above? If yes, what are your thoughts on them?
What is a movie or show you’re looking forward to watching in February?

I enjoyed watching Rebecca! I did read the book before the movie and the story was so well-written. Oooh Mindhunter was sooooo good!!!

OMG I love Mindhunter! I’m hoping the director finds time to direct a third season!
I watched the whole last season/part of Sabrina and I agree it went downhill. And the ending was so terrible and didn’t give great endings to any of the characters, Sabrina especially.

YESSS! I mean it’s probably a long shot but ugh we need a third season! Ahh that makes me so happy I didn’t waste my time on it π

Hi. I don’t watch a lot of tv, but I did watch Mismatched because I enjoyed the book When Dimple Met Rishi. I wanted something funny so started watching Schitt’s Creek since so many people have said it’s wonderful. I am just now in season 4. I also watched Kiki’s Delivery Service because when I feel sad a Studio Ghibli movie seems to help. I saw bits and pieces of Rebecca when my husband was watching it and I was busy doing something else. I loved the book when I was in high school and thought they did a nice job with the movie.

Hello! Ahh for some reason I just felt okay about Schitt’s Creek even though I really wanted to love it. Ah yes, I did enjoy Rebecca but probably won’t watch it again though.
