A HOUSE OF RAGE AND SORROW
COVER INSPIRED MAKEUP LOOK
One kingdom. One crown. One family.
“Maybe it’s time the great House of Rey came to an end. After all, what are we now? Just a house of rage and sorrow.”
Esmae once wanted nothing more than to help her golden brother win the crown of Kali but that dream died with her best friend. Alexi broke her heart, and she vowed to destroy him for it. And with her sentient warship Titania beside her, how can she possibly fail?
As gods, beasts, and kingdoms choose sides, Alexi seeks out a weapon more devastating than even Titania. Past lives threaten the present. Old enemies claim their due. And Esmae cannot outrun the ghosts and the questions that haunt her. What really happened to her father? What was the third boon her mother asked of Amba? For in the shadows, lurking in wait, are secrets that will swallow her whole.
The House of Rey is at war. And the entire galaxy will bleed before the end.

I swear the entire time I was reading this book my heart was thumping erraticly against my chest out of excitement and fear. I absolutely love all the comparisons drawn from the Mahabharata epic and the way justice was given to them even if the author did a different take on them. There are quite a few plot twists in store for the reader. some of which I was able to predict and other that had me gasping for my breath or brimming to tears because seriou shit goes down here. The book starts off with a slightly slow pace but quickly speeds up as we progress. I love how diverse the story was is terms of the emotions you go through as a reader. You never now whether Sangu Mandanna is going to make you jump with glee or gasp indignantly and even sob in distress. It’s a wild ride.
Wow. A Spark Of White Fire had an iconic and mesmerising cast that took up a special place in my heart and with this sequel they’ve basically won over my soul too. I absolutely adore every single character in this book to the point I’m just screaming at everyone to behave and not hurt each other. They’ve all gone through a lot and grown and developed to the point where I’m wiping my tears and smiling down at them like a proud mama hen. We get to see many different facets of almost each and every character and my heart can’t handle this. Esmae is a fire fuelled by rage and emotions and a girl who’ll stop at nothing to get her revenge. This is one badass female lead we all need in our lives! My heart melts whenever I even think of Max. Oof I adore all my soft marshmallow guys with hearts made of 24 carat gold. And oh my god I just can’t get enough of Max and Esmae? I SHIP IT SO HARD.
Kirrin is one of my favourite characters along with Titania and neither of them dissapointed me. Sangu Mandanna has every piece of my heart for inventing such a sarcastic and humanistic battle ship who loves collecting gossip from everywhere. And if the foreshadowing of her character is anything to go by I’m going to scream my head off for the big change that will be happening to her in the next book. We’ve got other great characters like Sybilla and Radha amongst he side characters. I wish we could just see more of Bear, the soft boy who just wants his family togetehr. I mean Alexi is entertaining to read about but I can’t help but want to throw a rock at him 99% of the time.
Sangu Mandanna has a beautiful writing style that is very simple and elegant and pulls the reader into the story. I especially love how she ends each chapter and draws on various metaphors throughout the story.
This was definitely a blockbuster hit for me even though I’m numb and emotionally compromised right now. It’s okay, sacrifices were made and in the end I regret nothing. This was a beautifully plotted book with great descriptions and breathtaking interpretations of Mahabharata. I’m not going to stop recommending it anytime soon so if you don’t want me breathing down your neck every moment just go pick A House Of Rage And Sorrow in Sept when it releases. Meanwhile I’m just going to be staring in space now as I wait for the third book to be released. Just kidding, I wanted to make a space reference, in actuality I’m just gonna cry and pine after the third book in this series.
MY FAVOURITE QUOTES
‘How are you?’
‘Meh’, he says, ‘You?’
‘Meh’, I reply
I laughed so hard at this! I feel the author has successfully captured the essence of every teenager’s life ever.
‘We’re not at home.’
‘An astute observation’, I remark. ‘You were asleep so I made the executive decision to allow that to continue.’
I’m in love with Titania, it’s as simple as that.
‘The truth can hurt’, Rama says, ‘but once you look it in the eye, you can transform it. This doesn’t have to be your truth forever, Ez.’
