Are you drooling yet?
Honestly this picture is enough to make my stomach growl but I’ll try to move on to the actual post…
So in celebration of the second edition of Indian Lit Readathon this July Shruti, Nandini and I are here with a new and delicious book tag called the Bookish Indian Sweets Tag! This is an extremely fun yet mouth watering tag for which you need to choose books based on the given prompts inspired by tasty Indian sweets. Most of the books I’ve chosen for this prompt are Indian with a couple of Asian books thrown in between. So without further ado, let’s get started!
RULES
- Link back to either one of the original creators’ post. (Nandini, Shruti, Charvi)
- Include the graphic featured in this post in your post
- Tag a few of your friends and have fun!
THE BOOKISH INDIAN SWEETS TAG
HOLIGE: An Underrated Book You Like To Recommend
Ghachar Ghochar was an incredible book that I read for last year’s Indian Lit Readathon and I don’t know who reccomended it to me but wow I can’t thank you enough! This was such a great book and a pretty easy read too with a lot of family dynamics.
JALEBI: A Book That Surpasses Your Expectations
Jasmine Days was the winner of the JCB Prize but I’m cautious when it comes to literary fiction books because I don’t always like them? But this one was really wonderful, albeit a little on the heavy side. The main girl’s journey as well as her thoughts were pretty interesting, she was right in the middle of two conflicting sides so we as readers could get a really good perspective.
RASGULLA: Your Bookish OTP
I can already hear Shruti squealing in the background because she and I are the biggest stans of Rahul and Prithvi from Beast. STRAIGHT UP ADORABLE! I would push Noor off the cliff for them (yes, there is a love triangle ahhhh).
The author also confirmed that Prithvi is bi even though it wasn’t stated in the book and the two of us went berseck!
GULAB JAMUN: A Book That Everyone Would Enjoy
Okay maybe I’m being biased but I don’t think anyone could not love There’s Something About Sweetie because it is the most adorable and body positive book I’ve ever read featuring strong women and cameos from When Dimple Met Rishi 🙂
Cutest rom-com book ever!
KALAKAND: A Book You Devoured In A Single Sitting
Wild Embers was my first poetry book my Nikita Gill, actually one of the first poetry books I had ever read. Nikita Gill did not disappoint! She has such a fluid and magical way of arranging words into sentences and rhyming and just leaving a huge impact on you.
PETHA: A Rare Book You Own
I don’t really have any rare books because I’m not a huge collector but my ARC of Darius The Great Is Not Okay is the only one that comes close to being rare. Somebody shipped this out to me as a bookish wish and I remember crying over it.
SOAN PAPDI: A Book You Wish Had A Sequel
I read Funny Boy this month itself and I’m already craving a sequel because this book absolutely stole my heart! Plus the ending was a bit sudden so I have too many burning questions about Arjie, I need him back!
KAJU KATLI: A Book You Think Is Worth The Hype
I can never stop emphasizing on how good Descendant of The Crane is! Seriously, the hype is freaking real, infact we need even more hype for this because this book will freaking blow your minds and make you gasp at unholy hours in the night. And also weep into tissues. Basically it will destroy you in the best way possible.
I’m so excited to see what everyone comes up with! I’m going to go ahead and tag
Kate @Your Tita Kate
Tiffany @Read By Tiffany
Rain @Bookdragonism
Marie @Drizzle and Hurricane Books
Kate @Reading Through Infinity
Camillea @Camillea Reads
Sam @Fictionally Sam
Isabelle @Bookwyrm Bites
I really hope to get to Descendant of the Crane soon.

omg I’m going to have to look up all these foods this tag made me so curious and hungry! also YES There’s Something About Sweetie was so good! I was a little nervous about it because I didn’t really like Twinkle, but Sweetie was so excellent!
I’m also happy to see someone else talking about poetry a bit! I read Wild Embers a couple months ago and thought it was pretty good. I’m reading another collection by Nikita Gill right now and can see a lot of motifs and similar themes in her work.

Yasss! Hehe do that after you’ve eaten though or you be drooling all over 😂
Right?! It’s just the perfect cutesy book ever 😍
I’ve been reading more poetry recently and Nikita Gill was absolutely amazing! Are you talking about My Soul Is A River? Cause that’s on my TBR for Indian Lit Readathon 😃

Eep thanks for the tag! THIS POST MADE ME HUNGRY BECAUSE I LOVE SWEETS. I really wish I can get myself some Indian sweets someday. My favorite sweet/dessert is actually ice cream because I’m very uncreative lmao. Kidding aside, ice cream makes everything better so I can’t live without it.

YAAAAY! Haha you may or may not want to google all those sweets 👀
Oof I hope so too! I wish I could just send you a package! Ahahaha ice-cream is goals, and now I’m craving it at 8 in the morning 😂
Lol can’t wait to see your answers!

I literally just ate dinner, but now my mouth is watering and I want second dessert! of this book I’ve only read Darius the Great and DotC, and clearly I need to fix that ASAP – ideally while enjoying some of the sweets you mention. honestly I haven’t tried a ton of different sweets, but my favorites are probably this one specific brand of Chinese milk nougat/candy and red bean taiyaki 😋
thanks for the tag, Charvi! 💕

I have actually never tried Indian sweets before and I can really gather that I’m missing out from this tag! i have an absolutely gorgeous copy of Descendant of the Crane that I’m planning to read next month so that I can finally see what all the hype is about. And I do want to read Darius this month for pride but seeing as school just started for me, it’s gonna be a bit of a stretch to squeeze it into my June tbr :(. I’m so excited to read There’s Something About Sweetie! also,Beast, along with Prithvi sound so interesting

*runs and hides*
(okay, I like a few – Rasgulla and Halwa and Kaju Barfi and Ladoos and yeah, that’s about it)
But I did love this tag, and Sweetie has been on ym TBr for so long and I just… I can’t believe I haven’t picked it up yet considering how much I have heard about it!

Lol it’s okay Jayati, I’m not much of a sweet tooth so I too tread very lightly when it comes to sweets. You need to pick up Sweetie!! I know after you’ve finished reading it you’ll be thinking why on earth did I not pick this up earlier?!?! 😂😂😂
