Thoughts I Have While Writing Book Reviews

I had a wonderful time reading all your lovely posts for this prompt which I have linked down below ๐Ÿ™‚

Can you believe Off Tangent Thoughts has been running since two weeks now?

I still feels so surreal to me, especially the fact that all of you have greeted it with so much of love and enthusiasm. I had a great time reading and laughing at all your different posts and I’ve been eagerly awaiting the day I could put up my second prompt post. And today is the day! Super pumped up for this one ๐Ÿ™‚

OTT PROMPT

THOUGHTS YOU HAVE ABOUT BOOK REVIEWS OR DISCUSSIONS

Under this prompt you can talk about either book reviews or discussion posts or even combine both. You can talk about reading them or writing them or just discuss your thoughts on them in general.

I decided to go ahead and talk about the thoughts I have when I sit down to write a book review.

Thoughts I Have While Writing Book Reviews

  • My mind is utterly blank
  • Seriously, what are words?
  • Okay let’s just start with the book title and author, that’s easy enough
  • *panics and forgets the author’s name*
  • Now for the summary or synopsis… should I copy it off Goodreads or write my own?
  • I mean ehh it’s too much hard work. I’ll just copy paste the Goodreads one. Like always.
  • I CAN’T REMEMBER A SINGLE THING ABOUT THIS BOOK?
  • I mean it’s not my fault, I read this one ages ago! Right?
  • *checks Goodreads to find she read it just two days ago*
  • Can’t I just write ‘This book was GOOD’ and fill the rest of the post with GIFs?
  • My thoughts are a mess, ughhhh
  • *bangs head against the wall*
  • *writes two sentences and gets distracted by twitter*
  • *returns twelve hours later to stare at the screen for an eternity*
  • Okay I’ll try taking this bit by bit…why don’t I first start off with the writing style
  • The writing style was…engaging, great pace, gripping, hooking – why doesn’t anyone invent new adjectives???
  • It isn’t possible for me to somehow transfer all my undying love for this book into words on a screen!
  • Isn’t writing ‘I shall sell every piece of my soul to read a single sentence of this book’ enough?
  • Fine, I’ll take a snack break
  • *emerges three days later*
  • Okay, okay, okay. Let’s not freak out and just talk about the amazing characters!
  • Wait last names? Pshhhh. I don’t even remember the names of the side characters, haha!
  • Hello 911? Yes I have an emergency, I’m flat out of adjectives and my blank screen is threatening to swallow me whole
  • Wait what was my train of thought again?
  • Was the plotline engaging enough?
  • I do love the book but why do I love it?
  • oh my god do I really love the book?
  • *adds a million GIFs to convey her emotions*
  • NO DON’T DELETE MY DRAFT-
  • Oh well, I guess I’m not writing a review after all ๐Ÿ™‚
  • YAS, RESTORED!
  • Okay I’m just going to hit publish and hope this shit is good
  • And I’m finally done-
  • Shit. I forgot add all the Goodreads links
  • *gives up on life*

At least that’s how it goes for me! Reviews are the bane of my existence, especially when I love the book too much.

POSTING IS NOW OVER FOR THIS PROMPT AND HERE ARE ALL THE POSTS THAT EVERYONE WROTE BASED OFF THIS PROMPT ๐Ÿ™‚

  1. This is FAR TOO RELATABLE. All of it. Especially not being able to come up with adjectives… my biggest problem there is overusing amazing, stunning, fantastic, spectacular, wonderful, awesome, etc in all my positive reviews… ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

  2. Why do I love this book is like an eternal looming question and the bane of my existence ๐Ÿ˜–๐Ÿ˜– but I think Iโ€™m trying to get better… But just as you mentioned, I have a very tough time writing reviews for 5 star books because Iโ€™m totally in love with them and have no clue how to articulate all that love ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚
Lovely post as usual Charvi… you made me smile again ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜

    • Yeah, sometimes I’m just riding on the high of finishing a book and misjudge so that can be very troublesome… Hehe thank you so much, Sahi! โค๏ธโค๏ธโค๏ธ

  3. Not being able to remember a single thing about the book when starting to write its review is so me!
I loved your post – it’s so relatable and I can’t wait to do this prompt!
I’ll probably end up doing one for Reviews and another one for Discussions, let’s see…

  4. I love this! This is why I’ve started immediately taking down thoughts after finishing the book, either on my bookstagram story, or on twitter. Lol. Then I just elaborate (i.e. bullshit like I did throughout my school years for Lit essays) and voila!

  5. Writing reviews can be such a pain! Like what do you write them besides I like/ dislike the book. I usually start writing review the minute I finish a book– and I still have nothing to write.

  6. Hahah I loved read this Charvi! It was so funny to hear your inner thoughts and I definitely have some similar ones when I’m reviewing books, especially ‘can I just write “this book was good” and insert loads of gifs’. That’s definitely me sometimes! Fab post ๐Ÿ˜€

  7. The more I love the book longer it takes for me to be coherent about my thoughts. Some of my ever favorite books have not been reviewed yet, some for years now. And I totally adored your hilarious post!

    • I totally relate! It was the hardest task ever for me to review Simon and so many of my reviews are unwritten ๐Ÿ™ˆ Thanks, Gayathri โค๏ธ

  8. I love writing reviews but god its hard…. I have to write immediately though, or else I’ll hardly remember anything after a couple of days ๐Ÿ™‚
Your post is so relatable… I especially laughed at the part about being all out of adjective because it’s so true… I don’t think I’ve ever used dictionary and thesaurus so much before for finding synonyms ๐Ÿ˜€ ๐Ÿ˜€

  9. This is such a relatable post! Writing reviews takes me FOREVER! And I suddenly lose all ability to form coherent sentences as soon as I need to write a review! Snack breaks for the win! Plus, Goodreads is a lifesaver when it comes to reminding me what characters names were!

    • Thank you! I need someone who can type for me as fast as lightning so I just have to go on and ramble ๐Ÿ˜‚ I know! This one time I couldn’t find the names of the side characters even on GR so I skipped them entirely ๐Ÿ™ˆ
