FIFA World Cup Book Tag

Let me start by putting this out there- I’m not a huge fan of watching sports.

Be it cricket, football, badminton or whatever else, I never really watch sports-persons play, eyes glued to the television. That’s just not me. The only time I avidly watched a sport event was when India was playing for the cricket world cup, which by the way, they won in that very match.

This doesn’t mean I don’t like playing sports- I absolutely love playing football and cricket though it has been a long time since I did so. I probably could get invested into watching sports but some part of me doesn’t want to because that’s just another thing that’s going to consume my time.

Needless to say, I was kind of wary when I got tagged for the FIFA World Cup Book Tag because yes I know FIFA is currently taking place but no I’ve never watched it, and this is after all a bookish blog with no place for sports. But then I read the word ‘Book’ which immediately got my attention. This turned out to be a pretty interesting tag and so I thought oh well, let’s give this a shot.

So, here we are! This tag was created by the extremely incredible Rendz over at Reading with Rendz and I was tagged for it by the wonderful Angelica over at The Book Cover Girl

Let’s get started!

1. LET THE FLAGS FLY

Wave them high and proudly!!! Look at all the fun colours!!!
A Book from your World Cup  Competing Country/ the Country that You Want to Win!

So…my country (India) doesn’t participate and as I mentioned above I don’t follow FIFA so I’ll be skipping the question.

2. IT’S THE BEAUTIFUL GAME

Football! Soccer! Beautiful! Whatever you call it!
A book with a pretty cover / A book that features soccer

I haven’t really read a book with soccer so here’s one with a beautiful cover! The City of Brass has such gorgeous covers in the many editions it has but I think I like this one the best. I mean look at all the colours and that ethnic design in the middle. I want it so bad!

3. FEROCIOUS FANS

Face paint! Big signs! Lots of noise!
Name a fandom you love being a part of!

I would like to name two fandoms- the Percy Jackson fandom and the Shadowhunters fandom!

Percy Jackson was one of the first fandoms I joined so it is very close to my heart. I was fully into it, be it writing fanfics, reading fanfics, watching fan videos and looking at memes or fanart. I even attempted to make my own Camp Halfblood shirt 😛

Yup, I was completely obsessed. I’ve kind of lost touch with that community on Wattpad but I’m still down for reading a good Percy Jackson fanfic! 🙂

Shadowhunters is the one I’m currently obsessed with. Cassandra Clare’s books were okay. I wasn’t much fond of the plot or the two main characters but I fell head over heels in love with the rest of the characters, especially Magnus and Alec. So when the show aired I was elated, and I still squeal when I watch them come to live on my screen or sometimes when I get time to read Malec fanfics. It’s a great community 🙂

4. TEAMWORK! TEAMWORK! TEAMWORK!

There is no way one person can win the game!
Name your Favourite Bookish Crew / A Book that has Co-Authors!

This is a great question! My favourite bookish crew has to be from the ACOTAR- A Court of Thorns and Roses series. Rhysand, Feyre, Cassian, Azriel, Mor and Amren make the best kickass group ever!

I love the banter among Rhys, Cass and Az. They know each other since ages and keep fooling around but ooh when you get on their bad side nobody can save you. Mor is sweet and kind of girly but also a real badass! And then there is the scary badass aka Amren who terrifies everybody but we all love her. And of course, add Feyre and this crew is unstoppable!!!

5. REF BLOWS THE WHISTLE

You either love him or you hate him.
Name a book/character that you mixed feelings towards!

Definitely Inan from Children of Blood and Bone by Tomi Adeyemi.

You can ask anybody who read this book, Inan was a very complex character who was struggling with his identity which made him very unpredictable. He could go from “KILL ALL THE MAJIS AND THEIR MAGIC’ to “oh, magic is good look at Zeelie use it!” within seconds. He was such an intense and struggling character.

I really hated him at times, the choices he made were infuriating but then other times I pitied and even started to love him. Before going back to hating him…

I still don’t love or hate him. Pity is the best I can describe my feelings towards this character.

6. GGGGOOOAAAALLLL!!!!

Everyone loses their heads and starts yelling at the top of their lungs!
Name your last 5 star read!

So I read two 5 star rated books almost together but I believe the most recent one was The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas. I have raved about that book so much, I simply LOVED it. Everybody does! You can go read my insane reaction here. But most importantly, if you haven’t read this unbelievably brilliant piece of art GO READ IT NOW!

7. THE GOLD CUP

It’s what we play for.
The Most Coveted/Loved Book On Your Shelf

THIS WAS VERY HARD AND IMPOSSIBLE.

My books are pieces of my heart, you CANNOT make me choose!

Okay fine.

It’s Simon vs the Homosapiens Agenda.

I’M SORRY! I know I always say I have no favourites but Simon is just so wow and adorable, sorry you other great books, I’m finally taking a side.

This one wins the Gold Cup!

So… was this fun? I hope so. I’ll go ahead and tag a few of my friends but if you want to do this tag consider yourself tagged!

So tell me about your take on sports! Do you play or watch? Are you currently watching the FIFA? Do you watch sports because of a particular sportsperson or the sport itself? Tell me everything!

  1. Ooooo I don’t really care for sports like at all, sometimes me and my mum catch a bit of the Olympics when it’s on but only the horse events and only to see the horses. My family isn’t very into watching sports and I don’t really play sport, I do horse riding (haven’t been in over a year though ooops)

However I live in the UK, England and of course…everyone’s banging on about how ‘we’re coming home’ and I’m sat here with my tea, thinking ‘it’s a bag of air being kicked round some grass, which is probably fake grass, you get excited when it lands in a net between two metal posts. That’s your life?’ Yeah that’s my take on football, like sure I get people love it and I respect that mostly…I just think football can sometimes be used to excuse some awful stuff that occurs.

Anyhoo thanks for tag lovely, I’ll try and get round to doing this soonish!

    • Oh wow I really wanna go horseriding but a) it would be expensive here b) I don’t think we even have this facility in my city 😦

I totally get what you mean, sounds kinda like a waste to me. Sure, take your time 💕

  2. I am… not a sports person. At all. I’m too lazy to play, and I just don’t see the point of sitting around watching people kick/throw a ball around, accidentally hurt themselves or each other, and screaming at the TV.

But this tag sounds… significantly more fun than sports themselves. Because books make everything better. 🙂
