Indian Lit Readathon

Quick question: How many of you have recently read a book by an Indian author?

How many of you have ever read a book by an Indian author?

(I really hope all of you raised your hand at that last question)

As time passes the book community is slowly progressing and indulging in more diverse books so as to give the undermined communities some importance and to gain a deeper understanding about them. But somehow I feel that Indian literature has got subdued despite this diversity movement.

This is one of the reasons why I collaborated with some of my Indian blogging friends to organise Indian Lit Readathon; a 48hr readathon that will begin at 12 am IST on 7th July and end at 12pm IST on 8th July. In this readathon we’ll be aiming at reading Indian Literature written by Indian authors or authors of Indian origin and encouraging others to do so as well.

International readers are very much welcome to participate! There are certain rules that must be followed and some fun challenges which have been listed below.

You need to complete any 3 of the given 10 challenges during the readathon but don’t let this rule discourage you! Even if you feel that you won’t be able to read 3 books within 48 hours you should still participate. It’s the spirit that matters!

So what are you waiting for?

Come sign up for this fun-filled readathon right here.

We will also be holding reading sprints over at our Twitter account so if you’re active on the site and are interested in hosting a sprint do fill out a short application form here.

  1. It’s so awesome that you guys came up with this idea… I don’t know if I can do the 48hour readathon but I’ll probably still try to read books pertaining to those challenges in July…
I’m so excited and looking forward to see some of your recommendations..

    • Thank you, Sahi! Really hope you’ll be there, it’s okay if you read only for a couple of hours. We’re all pretty excited too and you definitely won’t be disappointed by the recs! Aditi turned out to be a pretty efficient researcher 😀

  2. Great idea and good luck with the readathon 🙂 I probably can’t take part this time but hopefully in the next round. Oh and btw, shouldn’t the readathon finish time be 12AM 9th July to make it 48 hours? Just curious 😛

  3. That’s awesome that your hosting this!! WOOO!! And yes I think it’s totally important to celebrate diversity of all types, and it’s frustrating when someone gets overlooked right? I’ve read some amazing books by Indian authors, but not enough for sure. Anywayyyy good luck with the challenge.💛I wish I could join in more challenges but time, ugh. I need more of it. 😭

    • Thank you, Cait! Yup, really frustrating to get overlooked in books. Yeah, I have actually noticed that you rarely participate in challenges 😂 Thanks anyway and good luck with your reading!
