Blogs Based Solely on Book Reviews

For some reason nobody has been talking about this very crucial topic in the bookish community, so guess who took the charge?

That’s right, me! Today we’re going to talk about book reviews, you know those long-ass strings of words that us bookworms pour their heart and soul into?

Reading a book is easy but reviewing it is not.

Not only does composing a good book review take long hours but sometimes you accidentally ruin the book for yourself bh over analyzing every single word. Which is why I respect all the book bloggers out there internally screaming as they churn out reviews day after day, you guys deserve a medal. But at the same time, I get really annoyed by blogs that are solely based on book reviews and have no other content whatsoever.

I’m glad you asked why…

But before I start off on this very important topic let me just emphasize that these are my opinions and it is totally fine if you disagree with me since everyone is subjected to their own views and I just need to get this out. I’m not trying to possess or hypnotize you into everything I say.

True fact: Blogs filled with post after post of book reviews annoy the hell out of me!

I know book reviews are very important. They’re crucial to help a bookworm decide which book to pick up, to publicize that very book, give anxiety and stress disorders to reviewers and lots of other stuff. But maybe post something other than book reviews just once in a while?

There are quite a few problems regarding reviews these days…

• People won’t bother to read it if it’s about a really popular book at that moment of time, because you can find A HUNDRED MORE REVIEWS on the same book. What makes yours stand out? They probably don’t even want to find out since they’ve already gone over repetitive thoughts regarding that book through various other blogs and platforms.
• The number of views and comments on such posts tend to be quite low because frankly speaking, what do you comment? You shouldn’t be expecting more than 8 words, like ‘Nice post, keep it up’ or ‘I REALLY WANT TO READ THAT BOOK’ And if you’re lucky some nerd who is really eager to gush about the book you reviewed may stumble upon your blog post. Yaay!
• Too much of anything can be monotonous. You’re just posting review after review after review and my eyes are glazing over the content and you’ve probably lost me mid-way because I have a really short attention span. Oops?
• Some people wail when they see book reviews because shit their TBRs took a humongous hit!

• People want something from YOU! They want original content, something that shows them that you’re worth hitting that follow button and spending time upon. Let your creative juices flow!

At this point some of you might be getting uncomfortable. Whoops I only post book reviews and tags, my life is officially screwed. Better late than never!

You can still make amends, start posting fresh, quality content that will immediately grip the reader’s attention. Search deep within your heart to find what you really want to talk about, it’s not that hard!

A few ideas can be-

• Discussion posts
• Your reading life, bookshelf tour etc
• Current debates in the book community and much much more!

But at the end of the day, this is your blog. You need to make your own decisions and maneuver yourself into the right direction to decide whatever is the best for your blog. But on the other hand, if you’re really passionate about your reviews and feel that your blog is faring pretty well based on them alone, then go ahead! Don’t let me, or anyone else stop you.
